First: Health and Safety Inspectors at the Ministry of Labor.
A consulting team from Fikra has undertaken the development and qualification of occupational health and safety inspectors affiliated with the Ministry of Labor in the Arab Republic of Egypt, both scientifically and technically. This was achieved through:
1-Technical Training for Occupational Health and Safety Inspectors, at four levels, classified according to their scientific content. Each level package includes two types of guides:
- First: Trainee Guide, which includes details of scientific knowledge.
- Second: Trainer Guide, providing training plans and activities.
2-The Scientific content of the levels is as follows:
- First Level: “Basic Level”: This includes national and international legislation in addition to key work-related knowledge.
- Second Level: “Advanced Level”: This level extends to cover various details of international standards in the field of Occupational Health and Safety, global codes for Occupational Health and Safety, and audit processes conducted to assess the effectiveness of applying these standards in the work environment.
- Third Level: “Specialized Level”: This covers all the necessary knowledge for Health and Safety inspectors, workplace hazards (Measurement methods, Controls, Occupational diseases, and Workplace accidents), various techniques for analyzing and evaluating risks, and some related knowledge.
- Fourth Level: “Specific Level”: This addresses occupational diseases in detail, analyzes and evaluates risks in the targeted industrial sectors of the export project, including the textile, ready-made clothing, and food industries.
3- Developing a comprehensive training package for training inspectors on the guides.
4- Qualifying and training two groups at the four levels of guides, enhancing their technical capabilities in Occupational Health and Safety to ensure the continuity of guide delivery beyond the project’s completion.
5- Participating in courses and workshops as experts to exchange insights and experiences and ensure the implementation of the guide contents.
Second: Workers.
- Consultants from Fikra have developed the “OH&S” guide, a guidance booklet prepared for workers in simplified language to cover all educational levels.
- Documented repeated legal violations and the potential for high injuries among workers were considered as the basis for the booklet’s content, focusing on information to prevent recurring accidents.
- The booklet is built on current laws, taking into account the terms and definitions used, and bridging the gap between inspectors and the market.
- Numerous training sessions for workers have been conducted based on this guide by Fikra team. Trainers were trained to be qualified for practical training and to participate in awareness campaigns to deliver appropriate scientific content for each campaign.
